Reimagining Space to Enhance Flow, Light, and Functionality
Client: Private
Budget: £200k
Location: London Borough of Hounslow
Status: Completed 2018
This property was outdated, with a narrow galley kitchen and dark interiors. We were asked to completely refurbish it, including a 6m ground floor extension, a redesigned kitchen, a utility area, and a 3m x 3.4m first-floor extension with a vaulted ceiling.
We reimagined the entire layout, relocating the kitchen to the centre of the home. This created a functional open-plan space with plenty of worktop space overlooking the garden. The flow of the ground floor was carefully planned: the front room became a dining area, leading to the centrally placed kitchen, which then opened into a spacious 6m garden-facing living room. To add flexibility, the dining room was fitted with bi-fold doors, allowing it to serve as a temporary bedroom for aging parents when needed.
To maximize space, we combined the utility and cloakroom under the stairs. On the first floor, the bathroom was relocated to a central area, allowing us to expand the master bedroom to 5m long with a walk-in closet overlooking the garden. The vaulted ceiling added height and volume, with roof windows bringing in natural light for a bright and airy feel.
The interiors were designed with bold, stylish touches. Marble-effect tiles created a sense of luxury, and the ceilings featured unique wallpaper patterns, echoed on the TV wall with a laser-cut design. The kitchen’s navy colour was paired with mustard accents, which were carried through the home, including in a bespoke TV unit.
The result was a beautifully designed ground floor and an optimized first floor that combined functionality with bold, elegant interiors. Our clients were delighted with their transformed home.
